Yuka and I just booked a train trip to Kingston and just before I confirmed the reservation I saw this:

Plans change, mistakes happen! VIA understands and we’re pleased to offer a 24 hour grace period to permit you to cancel any Internet booking online without service charges - even if the booking you made was non-refundable! Just remember to make any necessary cancellations online within 24 hours of booking, always prior to departure of course, and all will be forgiven. To err is human but, then again, VIA is the Human way to travel!

Perhaps not 100% accurate, as VIA makes people line up like cattle, unlike trains in europe where you can just make your way onto the platform, but better than flying!
