i'm going to be using this as my main blog for the fall. There are a couple of reasons for this, some of which are worth sharing. First of all, I have started my new job at Ryerson, and my students, as per usual, will be using LiveJournal. I want to 'model practice' and use this one along with them for the term to see if it engenders greater communication and whatnot in the course. Secondly, my horrid ISP blocked my use of Moveabletype because of something they claim the the software did, and is more than likely something they did. And they won't let me get back in to either fix it or to back up the system. Needless to say I'm leaving them as soon as I get a moment. Finally, I just need a change. MT is nice and all, and I do have years and years of content on it, but if you want to remain current and open minded about the technology you use, you should try not only new things, but revisit old things, to see how they've changed, and how your thoughts may have changed in relation to it. Should be fun.

Thought that folks might find this interesting:
OneSixty Characters is an exhibition of children’s nursery rhymes and songs from around the globe. This exhibition will present fragments of childhood memories from different cultures.

Visit http://www.onesixty.net
Complete the online form and send your rhyme or song via text message to the mobile number on the website. You can choose to send just one line of the song or use up to three text messages to transmit more. Also feel free to use contemporary text messaging abbreviations.

The messages will be collated and presented as part of a multimedia installation at Electrofringe and eventually on the internet. Twenty texts will be selected for presentation in individual retro slide viewers as part of the installation.

Text messaging in your own original language is encouraged.
Please feel free to forward this information on to those that may be interested, nationally and internationally.

Thank you in advance

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4160466.stm has an interesting article on the use of Myst for teaching elementary level students. I think I need to get a copy of it.
