Today is the day I'll finally send of my copy-edits of 4 chapters for the handbook we've been working on for a long time. I know that I'm not nearly the last person. This fall has been busy enough with the move and the new job, but it is time to put this baby to bed.

McLuhan International Festival of the Future
Counterblast Event
Wednesday, September 28, 2005
5-7 pm Banting Institute, 100 College Street, Room 131
Technologies of Truth: Capturing Irony and Fighting Cynicism
Megan Boler and Mark Lipton
In what ways has post 9/11 media culture bred new forms of cynicism and
skepticism about current political spectacle and the role of the press?
How do new multimedia express dissent through such forms as quicktime
movies, flash animations, and blogs? Are these merely "armchair activism"
or do these new forms of communication create alternative counter-public
spaces which in turn influence mainstream perceptions? Boler and Lipton
consider the increasing use of humor and satire in public discourse and
will screen various examples of this current media trend so as to provoke
discussion about digital dissent and political culture.
