I've made some modifications to http://achieve.utoronto.ca/twiki/bin/view/ece912/WebHome and I've emailed everyone in the class. I've just tried to clarify a few things and give you some options to make your lives easier. If you didn't get the email, the info's here. See ya monday!

Hi everyone... just a couple of thoughts this week.

With out a doubt, make sure you're prepared for this class in the PoD. Please be on time as well, as we have a guest. The topic is "Future of Educational Technology: Diversity, Hacking" and we'll be doing "Course evaluations". Here's what we'll be looking at. Mostly this will be a 60-90 minute presentation and talk with our guest hacker: Catspaw. Please ensure that you have questions and comments. Catspaw is also a programmer doing socially conscious hacking... so think about what that might mean in terms of cultures who do not have the freedom to access the internet without the government watching you. For this reading: Albright, “Women and Computing.” [http://www.cpsr.org/program/gender], make sure that you look for issues of women and computers so that you'll have a good idea what the important issues are. You can also look at Catspaw's website (http://insanecats.com), especially her flash movies: http://insanecats.com/flash/index.shtml (if you have time, her version of the lord of the rings is great).

Week Ten – November 17
Lecture: Future of Educational Technology: Diversity
Guest: Catspaw: Girls and Wetware Hacking
Readings:
• Koppenhaver “Promoting Language and Literacy Among Young Students with Developmental Disabilities in Early Childhood Classrooms.” [http://www2.edc.org/NCIP/tour/toc.htm]
• Albright, “Women and Computing.” [http://www.cpsr.org/program/gender]

• Video – Lisa Nakamura [http://www.brown.edu/Departments/MCM/amm/Videos/NakamuraMov.html]
• Zero Cost Computing and Appropriate Digital Technology [http://edublog.com/ZerocostComputing]

If you're not done it already, please add your group's link to http://achieve.utoronto.ca/twiki/bin/view/ece912/RealtimeCollaborationTool for your work on the RealTimeCollaborationTool.

For the Bookmarks Assignment I bet some of you have elements missing... Don't forget that your assignment needs an introduction or explanation of what this is and how it is organized, and proper formatting of references. Make sure you check the assignment page so that you know what I'll be marking.

Bookmarks assignment only 10%? Yes, but seeing that we're not doing the other two short assignments, that will increase the weighting of this, a little bit. And there is 25% for the work on the wikiweb (see below) over all, and that will include more marks to be given for the bookmarks assignment in terms of how you designed and layed everything out, so don't worry... you'll be getting a lot of marks for this. As well, in class, please remind me to take a vote. I would like to use the 5% from the two assignments that we cancelled and add it directly to the Bookmarks assignment. If people don't agree, the 5% will be spread over all the remaining assignments.

Re: Wiki Web Assignment
There is the third 'wiki web assignment' for you to look forward to. Remember? The last two classes will give you the opportunity to work on it in class. This assignment is really just to put all your work together in one neat package, and should be very very easy for you to get full marks. We can talk about that week 11 and 12.
• The wiki must include, but is not limited to, a statement of your personal philosophy of education as it pertains to technology; links to all activities and files and lesson plans; at least three images.
• All links must function correctly.
• All pages must be free from spelling, grammar and usage errors.
• Due December 8

I've attached a revised version of the course outline.

See ya.
