Increase in Sent Email 2004-2007

I was just moving all my sent email from my sent email box to an archive. I like to keep all my old mail, and have stuff going back to 1997, and perhaps earlier. Trust me, it comes in handy. As I was putting stuff in the ‘old’ folder I decided to check to see how much email I’ve sent over the past years:

1. 2004 - 3848 messages sent
2. 2005 - 4839 messages sent
3. 2006 - 5249 messages sent
4. 2007 - 5790 messages sent

ThenI realized that I started using a new email program in 2004, and that my old email was probably still in the eudora folders, which I found… bring the number sent for 2004 to 4455. So it seems like the number is going up at a fairly steady rate. Interesting.

I'm glad to find someone else who archives all the email they get-- I went from Eudora to Outlook Express to Thunderbird. I worry that one day TB will crap out on me like OE did.

I really wish there was some kind of utility / online service that made it easier to archive everything. (Yeah, I know there's setting up an imap account on gmail, but I'm reluctant to dump all that information there)

How do you archive all your emails?

I keep everything in the email program I'm using at the time. And then back up the computer. I want to be able to keyword search everything without having to go somewhere else. I've thought of using gmail/imap, but I don't see how it will help in the long run.
