One of my students in CS8932 sent me this link: Wiimote repurposed for multi-point interactive whiteboard

We’d been talking a bout the use of whiteboards in schools now, and with this ‘hack’ anyone can have a digital whiteboard for a fraction of the cost using a data projector and a Wii controller. Johnny’s included the software on his page and http://www.wiimoteproject.com/. I’m going to see if I can make up one of the pens.

Ooh, cool. Just sent that to the head of ISS and head of Media Services at my university, since we've been talking about interactive whiteboards this past semester.

Truthfully, this kind of stuff scares me. When this kind of technology is implemented without a great deal of though, many of us are left out of the party.
The internet has been a shining example of this. In the beginning, there was text. Many of us rejoiced in the ability to read on-line. Then came graphics, and multimedia. Since then it has been a house to house battle to regain that in which we were once included.

The question of 'should we have whiteboards at all' is a valid one. This is more of a question of whether it can be done cheaply. The digital whiteboard functions the same as a whiteboard or blackboard does in a classroom, though I'd imagine that in the future it would be easy enough to include a voice-over function that would describe what the whiteboard mouse was moving over and doing. that would be interesting.

Accessibility is a problem and issue, but I know you'd not say that cameras are not valid. I assume you'd say that photos online should be properly tagged if used on web sites. I'd agree.
