The TTC has turned down Rafael Reyes, 23, for a Wheel-Trans pass. That is surprising, to say the least. Rafael Reyes, as you can clearly see in the photograph, has NO ARMS AND NO LEGS.
I am so disgusted and pissed off after reading about Rafael, I can't even discribe how this boils my blood. It shows how absolutely ignorant people are, why in the hell does it take a form that some annonamus person created to determine wether or not Rafael is disabled enough. Any idiot with a quarter of a brain can see that he more than qualifies for a Wheel-Trans pass, much more that the average person with a disability, HE HAS NO ARMS, AND NO LEGS. The lady doing the application is a perfect example of a passive citizen of Toronto "just going through the motions". Common sense would have told her that he is a special case and that she should make sure that the word was spread and that he got the help he so obviously needs. But obviously common sense is not very common and its just easier for some people to be passive.
I certainly see how you feel. What bugs me is the lack of a mechanism for dealing with this... We have systems at the university to create an equitable situation for people with special needs. You'd think that the city would have something to. I'm sure that the publicity will help resolve this.
Toronto TTC...you suck!
